Brief | Boys & Girls Club
Description |
Located along a main street, this one story structure with high visibilty from the surrounding neighborhood, presented a very interesting challenge and opportunity. The poject program includes a multipurpose room, classrooms, play rooms, offices, food and restroom facilities. Our approach was to create a very open and pleasant building environment that contrasted with the segregated, almost oppressive feel of the existing campus. This was accomplished through the use of color, a strong relationship between interior and exterior spaces by incorporating into the layout covered patios, exterior canopies and fenestration that encouraged visual interaction between various users. In addition, the building was designed to be flexible enough to be utilized as a school building as well as a recreational club in which some of the kids could be doing homework while others could relax after school in a safe and positive environment.
